Robotics Workshop at Carroll Center for the Blind #2

On August 17, Gummy Bears Robotics got the opportunity to revisit the Carroll Center for the Blind. We were incredibly grateful for the opportunity to revisit the wonderful students there.

We kicked things off with lunch, generously provided by the Carroll Center!After this, we jumped into it with a bit of freebuilding and some introductions. It was amazing to see how enthusiastic and interested the kids were with the legos.

Later, they built some of their own awesome creations. We gave them the opportunity to build some basic mechanisms that are used in FLL. They first got to feel how the mechanisms worked and then got a choice for which mechanisms they were interested in and wanted to build. We gave them verbal instructions which they followed to a T. . Some were able to memorize the entire build from the start and build it completely independently.

They had so much fun with the mechanisms that they created and learned exactly how they worked. It was really fantastic to see each learner going at their own pace and really understanding the mechanisms instead of just following the instructions. They were all working at a pace that felt comfortable for them and most of them were able to finish 3 different mechanisms!

All in all, we had an amazing time revisiting the Carroll Center for the blind and the students there were super kind, curious, and energetic. They were fantastic to work with and we hope to visit them again.
